England Golf Regional Coach – West Midlands U16 Boys

Essex Golf Union – Lead Boys Coach

David Brooks is one of the leading full-time Professional Golf Coaches in the country. In addition to his position as Head Professional at The Warren, David has several prominent positions within the game including coaching roles for England Golf, Essex Golf and the PGA.

David’s key coaching value is:

Be prepared to learn from every experience, sometimes golf can be very tough but if you embrace the challenge you will move forward.

What do you love about the game of golf?

In four hours on the golf course you can experience every emotion in life, whether you are playing in the company of your fiercest competitor or closest friend.

What is the best golfing advice you have been given?

I was told early on to be creative in everything I tried in golf. Maybe this is a metaphor for life, but whether on the practise range or golf course I have always tried to use my imagination, learn from my mistakes, and think of golf as a journey which I can enjoy for a lifetime.

What do you enjoy about coaching the game?

Seeing people achieve their goals over a period of time. We are so lucky to spend our days in the company of people enjoying themselves, if we can add to that enjoyment a little by helping them to improve we have done our job well.

What would you like to achieve in the game?

I have my personal goals for the next few years but I am motivated by making progress along with my team. I have a great group of coaches working with me who are eager and full of energy and enthusiasm. We just want our customers to have a great time playing this incredible game.

Full Bio

After three very successful years as England Golf Regional U16 Coach for the East of England, David was asked by National Performance Director for England Golf, Nigel Edwards, to take on a new role in 2012. As Regional Coach for the West Midlands, David is tasked by England Golf in developing the skills and performance of a small group of the most talented U16 boy golfers in the counties of the West Midlands.

At county level David is the Lead Boys Coach for the Essex Golf Union. During his fifteen years of involvement in the programme, David has played an instrumental role in developing the county's coaching programme. It has become recognised as one of the most successful and innovative of its kind in the U.K, culminating this year with the U18 Boys squad being crowned England Golf County Boys Champions for 2014.

David is one of a select number of PGA Tutors in the U.K, specialising in the swing department. This responsibility involves working for the P.G.A. National Training Academy at The Belfry, training assistant professionals to understand and teach the golf swing, and how to coach golfers of all abilities. Although he has taken a sabbatical for a couple of years to complete further studies, David hope to return to involvement in this programme in Autumn 2015.

Even though David is tasked with helping other to learn, he is very serious about his own continued education as a coach. Having just completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Coaching at the University of Birmingham, David is now undertaking a Master's degree in the same subject which he is on course to complete in the middle of 2015. David is also part of a small group of coaches working towards being the first recipients of the new UKCC Level 4 Coaching Award.

David actually began his golfing career as an aspiring young Tour Professional, but quickly came to the realisation that his skills were better suited to coaching, and pursued his career in this direction. He trained with one of the leading PGA Professional's in the Midlands, Paul Symonds, and on qualifying moved further south to work for Vivien Saunders. When the opportunity became available to move to The Warren Golf Club to work alongside two of golf's leading professionals, Mickey Walker and Denis Pugh, it was too good an opportunity to miss.

Since arriving at The Warren, David has developed his coaching skills in many directions. He has participated in several national and international coaching conferences and spent time observing many of the game leading Golf Coaches at work first hand, most notably David Leadbetter, Butch Harmon and Hank Haney.

In addition to his recognised expertise in swing technique, David has developed his own hugely successful Golf Academy at The Warren that provides a range of coaching services that would be difficult to find together anywhere else. David can provide the very best expertise to help you develop all the skills required for high performance golf, whether it be in swing technique, the short game, physical conditioning and mental training.

David works with many elite players, both professional and amateur, and uses his expertise in player development and performance training to accelerate their progress. However David has a client list which includes many club golfers, and he still very much relishes the challenge of helping players of all abilities to improve their skills, and enjoy this great game even more.
